Second Annual Mike Bonesky Memorial Set for August 24th at the Big R
RANSOMVILLE, NY (December 29, 2021) The second annual Mike Bonesky Memorial for the Sportsman division will once again be a Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series event. The race will take place on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, coinciding with the 37th annual Summer Nationals for the Big-Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series. The race is in honor and memory of avid fan and former racing columnist Mike Bonesky.
“We are thrilled to once again continue the tradition of having a Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series event at the Big R,” comments Ransomville Speedway management. A rain date of August 25th has been scheduled if needed for this event.
Mike Bonesky lived and breathed racing. He raced in the Bomber division at Ransomville Speedway in the early 1980s. After being behind the wheel, Bonesky had a pen, paper, and eventual computer with him as he was a columnist and writer in both the Gater Racing News and Area Auto Racing News. He also spent time handling the Public Relations duties for the indoor TQ Midget races at the Niagara Falls Convention Center as well as Holland International Speedway. Most recently, Bonesky was a member of Ryan Susice’s pit crew and spent time helping his grandson Jackson’s go-kart efforts for Thursday nights at “The Little R”. Bonesky was an avid racing fan in general, as he had traveled to over 100 different tracks throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Bonesky passed away unexpectedly in December of 2020. He was a graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School and served in the United States Army.
Last season, Scott Kerwin of Newfane, NY battled Ransomville’s Austin Susice for much of the feature distance. Kerwin would score the win with a last-lap pass. Brett Senek, Brett Martin, Susice, and Zach Sobotka completed the top five.
