BRAD & DYLAN DUHOW MOVING UP TO NOVICE SPORTSMAN FOR 2021

The pipeline from the “Little R” Thursday go-karting program to the big show on Friday nights at the “Big R” has produced a number of feature winners and track champions throughout the years at Ransomville Speedway. That feeder system continues to create new talent for 2021 as two karting graduates will make their debut in the Kevin’s Carpet Cleaning Service Novice Sportsman.

Cousins Dylan and Brad Duhow have racked up numerous karting wins and championships at Ransomville and elsewhere, and now they will go head-to-head in the entry-level open-wheel division.

Brad Duhow will get his first taste of on-track action in the Novice Sportsman this upcoming season as he will campaign a car out of the Dirt Rocket shop. “I’ve run at a competitive level in go-karts while traveling around New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio,” said Duhow. “Now I’ve received an opportunity to make the jump to the Sportsman, and I’m excited to take the challenge.”

For Dylan Duhow, 2021 will be his second year in the Sportsman after making his debut this past season. Duhow drove a car for Scott and Zach George, which he used to win twice at Genesee Speedway while on his way to racking up the Novice Sportsman track championship. He also made starts at the Land of Legends Raceway and Outlaw Speedway.

“It was great to even have the opportunity to race with the current situation,” said the 16-year-old Duhow, “I learned at a young age racing karts that seat time is very important.”

While he found success in his first season driving the bigger Sportsman cars, Duhow did have to go through a period of adjustment. “It was definitely a different animal to get a grasp on, but karting taught me a lot,” said Duhow. “The hardest thing to overcome was the difference in throttle control, especially going into the corner. Once I got the hang of it I had a blast. I challenged myself each time I got on the track to be better.”

With a season under his belt, Dylan Duhow is looking forward to tackling his home track for the very first time. “Since I was five I hoped to race on the same track where I grew up, I can’t wait,” said Duhow. “I watched so many great drivers compete at the Big R, and now I have the chance to race there. It’s very exciting.”

Both Brad and Dylan are following in the footsteps of their cousin, four-time Sportsman track champion Scott Kerwin. Kerwin has gone into semi-retirement as a driver but did come back to win the Sid Jeffery Memorial and the DIRTcar Sportsman Series race at the “Big R” in 2019. Brad Duhow calls Kerwin his hero, while Dylan received coaching from Kerwin during his rookie season in the Sportsman.

With plenty of support from their families, both Brad and Dylan should be fast learners as they transition from the “Little R” to the “Big R”.
