Williamson, McPherson, Pangrazio, Whiteside, and Jessome Score Opening Night Wins
RANSOMVILLE, NY (May 2, 2025) Four time and defending track champion Mat Williamson from St. Catharines, Ontario started his title defense with a win in the Krown Undercoating Modified feature as SANY presented the 67th Season Opener at Ransomville Speedway Friday night. Cody McPherson from St. Catharines, Ontario won the Stirling Lubricants DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Josh Pangrazio from Oakfield, NY won the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stock feature event. Brad Whiteside from Caledonia, NY won the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks feature. Matthew Jessome from St. Catharines, Ontario won the Kevin's Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman feature.
Brandon Michaud and Erick Rudolph brought the Krown Undercoating 358 Modifieds to the green flag for their 30-lap feature, with Rudolph showing the way. Mat Williamson would battle with Steve Lewis Jr for third place. The caution would come out as Kyle Richner had front end issues on his number 26 in turn four. The early race restart would see Rudolph and Michaud on the front row, with Rudolph ahead of Michaud, Wiliamson, Lindberg, and Dalton Slack. Williamson took over second on lap eight and would go after Rudolph for the lead. Rudolph would pull away from the field, but the caution flag would fly on lap 20 after Jesse Cotriss hit the turn four wall. The ensuing restart would see Rudolph and Williamson battle for the lead that made everyone in the grandstands be on the edge of their seats. Every time Williamson made a move for the lead, Rudolph would counter it to regain control. Williamson would take the lead for good on lap 22, and would go on to score the win, his 32nd career Ransomville triumph.
Austin Susice and Jake Bansmer were on the front row for Stirling Lubricants DIRTcar Sportsman feature, with Bansmer with Cameron Tuttle giving chase. Tuttle would take over the lead on lap two. Cody McPherson would reel in and would battle Bansmer for second. McPherson would take over the lead from Tuttle on lap 12. McPherson would take the lead and would go on to score his 19th career Ransomville win, tying him with James Friesen for 9th all-time.
Josh Pangrazio and John Zimmerman led the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks to the green with Pangrazio showing the way ahead of Zimmerman, Brandon Sherwood and Mike Welch. Sherwood would slow on the back straightaway to bring out the race’s first caution on lap five. On the restart, Byron Dewitt III battled with John Zimmerman for second, but Zimmerman was able to hold off Dewitt. Pangrazio would go on to score the win, his 13th career Ransomville win.
Brad Whiteside and Matt Hornquist brought the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks to the green flag for their 15-lap main event, with Whiteside showing the way. Jeffrey Wynes closed in on Ben Hornquist for fourth place, as the top three pulled away from the field. Whiteside would drive away from the field to pick up the feature win.
Matthew Jessome and Kyle Teeter brought the Kevin’s Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman to the green flag with Jessome in the lead ahead of Bubby Pawlak. Jessome and Pawlak were the clear front runners, as they pulled away from Johnny Zimmerman, Kyle Teeter, and Jacklyn Nettleton. Jessome held off Pawlak to score his first Ransomville win in his first visit to the track.
In just two weeks, the Kubota High Limit Sprint Cars will be making their inaugural visit to the Big R. Next Friday night, May 9, a full card of racing featuring the Krown Undercoating 358 Modifieds, Stirling Lubricants DIRTcar Sportsman, KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks, Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks, and the Kevin’s Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman will be presented.
